Well it’s not really July yet, but Ghost is blowing coat and our yard – house – furniture – clothing is covered in dog hair. I decided to go back to a simple, everyday scene and play around with reflections, middle, fore, and backgrounds and a different angle of the deck than I’ve been previously working on.
“Christmas in July”
So for this shoot I stood on the pool deck and shot the lower deck/backside of the house slightly from above. Louis is sitting on the chair that leans against the wall to the pool deck so I thought it was kind of cool to only have him appear in a reflection. If you zoom in on this piece Luna is looking out of the same window that Louis is reflected in. I think printed/blown up more she’d be a little more noticeable. I kind of like the idea of hiding figures or dogs in some of the photos so they aren’t super obvious.
I really like how the one really big pop of color is the grooming table. I also like how Nate’s shirt color/ the grass/the hose are varying shades of green and the table is red sort of playing on the idea of Christmas colors. I really like how the fur turned out. When I was shooting it out in the mid day sun I was worried that it wouldn’t even be visible in the photos. I also like how Jack is looking up at the fur (snow) while it’s falling from the sky. Ideally I would have liked to have his body/head turned a little bit more towards Ghost/Nate to bring the focus back to Nate and Ghost.
Compositionally this could have been stronger. I was more or less focused on having a fore, middle and background. I wish the grill and the green hose weren’t in the scene. I do somewhat like how the green hose mirrors the blow dryer hose though and leads you through the scene. I might play around with cropping it to see if I like anything else better.
