So this is piece that kind of developed along the way and the story sort of came about through it so it’s not super clear and didn’t exactly turn out really how I wanted. I knew I wanted to do a shoot where you could see both upstairs and downstairs. I liked the idea of me walking into a room upstairs and Nate walking into one downstairs. I like how our clothing is similar in color and really some of the only non-neutral color in the scene.
So the concept I wanted was that Ghost would be running out of a room with underwear in his mouth. Pretty much everyone else is just oblvious and doing their own thing with Jack, enviously watching Louis chew on a bone. I wanted Luna following Nate into his office but the angle just didn’t work out for that. Maybe I should have her going down the stairs instead?
I really don’t like a lot of the lighting in this piece. Upstairs is really warm and downstairs is really cool. That kind of could be a cool play just because it differentiates the spaces more. Luna definitely needs better lighting on her. I think that’s the part that bugs me the most. I’ve also played around with cropping it differently. I almost want to crop all the way to wall by Louis so it’s almost divided into four squares (Ghost + I, Lou on the stairs, Nate + Luna, and the negavite space with the white ceiling split by a shadow.) When I do that it feels very Wes Anderson or something to me, but then it bugs me because the dividing wall is right down the middle of the shot.
I like the idea that the “kids” are doing their own thing, entertaining themselves which ends up being doing things they aren’t supposed to like Ghost running around with underwear in his mouth. Then the “parents” are sort of absent, doing their own things but still slightly present. I think to better tell a story I needed a pile of laundry or something that gives you a clue to what Ghost has in his mouth. I don’t know how I feel about this one as whole.
